Accident investigation provides one of the most important sources of information needed to drive improvements in workplace health & safety. The new Health & Safety at Work Act and Regulations place a legal requirement on businesses to review notifiable events i.e. investigate accidents.
For an accident investigation to be effective it needs to be structured and systematic. It also needs to be performed by trained and competent employees who can maintain an 'open mind' throughout the investigation. It is too easy to 'jump to conclusions', blame the worker and miss the opportunity to really learn from the incident and therefore prevent a similar occurrence.
This is a very practical and hands-on training course. The exercises will help the participants to recognise biases they bring to an accident investigation and how this mind-set can influence the outcomes of an investigation.
